چکیده

In this paper, we propose and discuss efficient GPU implementation techniques of absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) for a 3D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) electromagnetic field simulation for antenna design. In view of architectural nature of GPUs, the idea of a periodic boundary condition is introduced to implementation of perfect matched layers (PMLs) as well as a transformation technique of PML equations for partial boundaries. We also present efficient implementation method of a non-uniform grid. The evaluation results with a typical simulation model reveal that our proposed technique almost double the simulation performance and eventually achieve the 55.8% of the peak memory bandwidth of a target GPU. key words: absorbing boundary condition, perfectly matched layer, FDTD, GPU

The numerical simulation of electromagnetic fields and particle interactions in accelerator components can consume considerable computational resources. By performing the same computation on fast, highly parallel GPU hardware instead of conventional CPUs it is possible to achieve a 20x reduction in simulation time for the traditional 3D FDTD algorithm. For structures that are small compared to ...

A Novel Scheme for High Performance Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) Computations Based on GPU

Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) has been proved to be a very useful computational electromagnetic algorithm. However, the scheme based on traditional general purpose processors can be computationally prohibitive and require thousands of CPU hours, which hinders the large-scale application of FDTD. With rapid progress on GPU hardware capability and its programmability, we propose in this pa...

Finite-difference computation of transient electromagnetic waves for cylindrical geometries in complex media

We present two novel, fully three-dimensional (3-D) finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) schemes in cylindrical coordinates for transient simulation of electromagnetic wave propagation in complex (inhomogeneous, dispersive, and conductive) and unbounded media. The proposed FDTD schemes incorporate an extension of the perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundary condition (ABC) to three-dime...

CUDA-OpenGL Interoperability to Visualize Electromagnetic Fields Calculated by FDTD

─ In this contribution, a compute unified device architecture (CUDA) implementation of a two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) program is presented along with the OpenGL interoperability to visualize electromagnetic fields as an animation while an FDTD simulation is running. CUDA, which runs on a graphics processing unit (GPU) card, is used for electromagnetic field data generati...
